Losing Team Drinks

The losing team then has to take two drinks, for every point they were beaten by. So, let’s say the winning team had 21 and the losers had 17. That’s a difference of 4 points, so the losers have to take 8 drinks.

Note that’s drinks, not shots – unless you want it to be a very short game of Cornhole! A drink can be a sip of beer or wine, the aim being to get a light buzz not to get falling-down drunk.

Place Your Bets

For the gamblers amongst you, this is a chance to make your favourite outdoor drinking games into games of chance. All you need to do is decide between players what the stakes are – how much will you drink if you lose?

Put your heads together and come up with a number of drinks you’re willing to stake. For example, two. At the end of the round, the losing team has to take two drinks – and then play the next round with a slight disadvantage!

Depending on the skill level of the players, this one can either be a light drinking game or a heavy one. The essence of the game is simple, when the opposing player or team sinks a cornhole? You drink.

Nominated Bags

This version needs a little preparation. Take four of the beanbags, and write or sew one of the following on each: Social, Drink, Chug, or Shot. As you’ve probably guessed, if you get a cornhole with one of those bags then the opposing team has to take that action.

This is usually played with the first innings as a regular game, and the second with drinks. But there’s no reason why you couldn’t just use these decorated bags for both innings.

So he decided to build them wooden boards with holes of the same size. He then improved the game by replacing the rocks with corn-filled bags.

The game became quite popular for a while until corn prices began to rise in Europe. During the 1800’s, German immigrants started playing it again in America because corn was abundantly available by that time. Some say that this is how the game rose to popularity in Cincinnati, because many Germans migrated to this area during the 1830’s.

One of the most plausible theories assumptions on the origins of cornhole is that the game evolved from a game called “Parlor Quoits,” which was patented in 1883 by Heyliger de Windt. The game’s description includes most of the features of what we now call cornhole, but instead of a round hole, it has a square one.

Parlor Quoits is a variation of Quoits, which is similar to horseshoes. Players have to throw steel rings and try to get it to land over a metal spike or as close to it as possible. Like other “parlor quoits” patents before it, De Windt’s patent also attempted to recreate the quoits game-play to make it suitable for an indoor environment, but his patent varied from the others in that it used bean bags and had a target made of a slanted board with a hole.
